Peacock Farm is a photography and sound installation on the architectural work of an Oregonian natural builder. The installation includes a live sound design performance by the artist alongside 26 silver gelatin prints mounted to an array of hand built steel and wood frames

Like a motion picture film, Peacock Farm presents a series of sequential images and sounds to depict a day in the life of natural builder Casey Slezak. A purpose of this story is to enhance awareness and demand for natural building processes.

A series of 6 loudspeakers are suspended evenly across the room between these photographs. Each speaker projects an independent set of textures and narrative samples. During an installation event, Justin redistributes a separate mix of sounds to each speaker in response to the interaction of the participants in the room.

INFO

All of the images were captured on 35mm gauge film, and optically printed at the Bushwick Community Darkroom by Justin. Each sound was recorded in the field on a digital multitrack recorder.

The acoustic environment and spacing of the exhibit can create a unique experience at each installation location - ranging from subtle atmosphere in a restaurant to dominant sensory immersion in a museum.

Peacock Farm is the synergistic outgrowth of Justin F Valls' focus as a documentarian, photographer, and sound designer. Justin is actively seeking appropriate events and spaces to exhibit this work. Inquiries can be directed to justin at abode-film.org
